Fatal Fire Destroys Stateroom Inn Near Portland Expo
At 2 30 this morning a two story structure known as the Stateroom Inn near the Portland exposition grounds burned to the ground. A man and a boy were found dead and charred, Mme Lasell Lupert died from burns, and several others including Mrs Ida Harris Mia Van Sant and daughter A C Collander and Joe Stubbs were seriously burned or injured while leaping from windows to escape. Forty guests were present, many panicked by the blaze. The victim identified as Thomas Sorenson of Notch Hill British Columbia was among the dead.
