Germans Dig In On Vesle Front

Intermittent bombing of rear areas along the Vesle continues as the front remains generally quiet. An American patrol found the Germans had dug in along a new river crossing with strong machine gun defenses. Three Italian soldiers captured near Solasons in July arrived at the American lines and corroborated stories of cruel treatment of Allied prisoners and lack of food from escaped British soldiers.
