From Portsmouth New Hampshire August 16 a major peace meeting advances with Japanese peace envoys entering sessions amid reports that Washington was sent for parchment suitable for engrossing treaties. Officials announce a 3 p m session after a morning discuss seven articles and a recess.
Judge Gilliam heard a major injunction case over the Washington hotel and Erickson night work shovel. Attorneys Emory and Lyter sparred on damages, corporate rights, and public benefit during the dig or pause debate. The afternoon session continued with two rush divorce case reports and further argument.

A double blast at the Judson Powder Works in Fleming Point Oakland destroys the plant and ignites a fire that engulfs all buildings on West Berkeley Point Richmond. Scores of workers, mostly girls, are believed killed in the Aug 16 disaster.
