He says he was jailed on unsupported accusations and that his wife sought his disgrace by false charges and threats to take his life. The couple married May 17 1895 in Minneapolis. The divorce case notes his seven days in jail before charges were dismissed.

Senator Miles Poindexter denounces a Seattle paper report as a pure fabrication claiming he spoke against a tariff on lumber and shingles. He says he introduced an amendment to tax shingles, supported lumber and shingles tariffs, and opposed the Tawney free lumber amendment. He plans to discuss the matter in Seattle Friday.
In Spokane Sen Miles Poindexter is cheered by 500 plus supporters and called a senator who represents the people. In Seattle he will speak at Dreamland rink to a 4000 capacity crowd with fireworks and a brass band as part of a major campaign event.
Hopes to save the Steamer Bear grew when tugs working last night freed her from a reef near Eureka California where five lives were lost in June. Crews dug a basin around the vessel and plan to move her to deep water soon, possibly before Sunday.
Fifty six officers and men from the First and Third divisions of Washington state militia boarded the cruiser Vicksburg for their annual training trip to Santa Cruz California. On return they will hold target practice at Port Townsend and reach Seattle on August 26. The cruiser New Orleans will depart later this week with civilians aboard for a cruise to Southern California.
In Dallas on August 10 police judge John F. Murphy fined William Madden 50 cents for kissing his fiancée Lucile Marin and fined Marin 25 cents for kisses she gave back. Neighbors testified prompting a $10 and $5 assessment respectively. The judge noted the kiss value difference and court officials questioned the verdict.
Reports from Huntington and surrounding towns estimate 50 to 75 dead, but state officials cite 16 as known. Coal companies face about 2 million dollars in losses, while property damage may reach 5 million. Gov. Denver Aug 10 The republican state assembly opened with a spirited governor race. Carlson Nicholson and Stocker expected to gain the 10 percent vote for ballot placement in the September 2 primaries. Six presidential electors to be named likely back Hughes. Plans circulated to seek Colorado bull moose party support at the assembly tomorrow.
Mediators Henry M. White and William Blackman chaired a meeting with labor reps to appoint an arbitration committee. The panel includes E. P. Marsh J. G. Brown W. M. Short and Charles Doyle. They will present settlement plans to interested organizations.
The body of Ernest Johnson, 35, a Santa Fe bridge worker, was found on the Owl train track with a severed head and a whisky bottle. Welts indicated assault and robbery before being thrown on the track. He had reportedly appeared with a large roll of money, which was not found. Also, a water shut off is announced for East Jefferson Street area on Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
