He led detectives to a bay hiding spot where gold bars valued at seventy thousand dollars were recovered, with more expected by noon. DIMMICK SAN FRANCISCO Aug 10 Walt Dimmick ex chief clerk at the United States mint San Francisco was arrested on a grand larceny charge for allegedly stealing 990,060 in $20 gold pieces. He had been under Secret Service surveillance since July 4 when six sacks worth 20,000 disappeared. He was dismissed from the mint prior to the robbery amid unrelated decisions.
Crescent Lodge of the Amalgamated Association in Wheeling plans an independent military company within its ranks and approves a 10 percent levy on earnings, totaling $1600, to support striking workers. The move aims to enable quicker, autonomous response to disturbances without state troop deployment.
A 10 year old named Frank Derrace drowned near Orillia after falling into a slough while playing nearby. Neighbors heard his cries and found him but he died. Coroner Hoye proceeded to the scene and funeral plans may be in Kent.
