In San Francisco on Sunday John A. Logan, 23, shot and killed his 66 year old stepfather Joseph Bartlett during a family quarrel. Mrs Bartlett was struck unconscious by an axe during the fracas as she attempted to intervene. Logan retrieved a gun and fired after being attacked again, despite warnings.
A Northern Pacific fireman named Brown was killed when adjusting a headlight on a slowly moving engine. He lost his footing and slipped beneath the locomotive, the engineer discovering the body dragged under the engine. Brown leaves a widow in Tacoma.
Aug. 7 in Aberdeen Mrs. Schwab a young wife drowned while fishing in Elliott slough. She and husband stood on a log when it tipped into the water. He saved himself but she was swept away by the swift current. Three years earlier two girls died at the same spot and several fatalities have occurred there. In Bremerton a young Italian about 20 also drowned yesterday.
At dusk near Charleston a small row boat with three men capsized. Borgean and two companions were slightly intoxicated. The two companions swam to shore while Borgean disappeared beneath the water.
A man believed to be George Sherman was ordered arrested by Marshal Charles Blackman at the Cheney depot. He ran when challenged and Blackman shot him dead on the spot. In Cumberland Wyoming two were killed and two seriously injured in a mine blast incident at Union Pacific Coal No. 1. The dead are Joseph Anderson and James Sellers. the injured include Joseph Corrigan with a broken back and Frank Babella with a broken back.
Secretary Shaw arrived at Oyster Bay and went to Sagamore Hill to confer with the president on the yellow fever situation in New Orleans. Surgeon General Wyman reported the New Orleans citizens committee has funded more workers experienced in epidemic control.
The Morgan liner Comus arrived from New Orleans with all well and will be detained for five days at quarantine.
A suspicious fever case has been found north of Fort Worth. The patient is an Armour representative from Monroe Louisiana, carefully screened and guarded. A shotgun quarantine is in effect at Jefferson. Health Officer Tabor stated there is no yellow fever case in Texas.

Frank Purcell manager of the Monarch Bar was arrested near 9 am at South Second and Main by Patrolman Carleton after Purcell allegedly threatened to kill him if an arrest or investigation occurred. Purcell faced drunkenness and disorderly conduct charges before Police Judge Gordon as city officials, including Mayor Ballinger and Chief Delaney, reviewed the incident in a court of inquiry.
