Bikers Meet Over Yard Wage Cut And Possible Strike

A conference is set for 8 oclock Wednesday afternoon between D E Kinner president of the Skinner Eddy yard and Metal Trades Council members to decide whether workers will accept wage reductions or go on strike. Separately Everetts Great Northern shopmen began a citywide walkout at 10 am demanding a 25 percent raise threatening widespread disruption to rail service.

Cleland Named to Public Service Commission Post

Spokane Aug 6 Gov Hart announced Hakee H Cleland assistant attorney general will replace Arthur A Lewis on the Public Service commission. Lewis resigns August 15 Cleland formerly deputy prosecuting attorney and has served as the commission’s attorney and worked on rate hearings in Portland and Seattle.

Citywide Food Sale At 2 Today In Public Markets

The city plans a 2 PM sale of surplus army rations at the Westlake on Pike Street markets. Acting Mayor Lane announced quantities including 40,000 pounds bacon at 35 cents a pound, 1,000 cases corned beef, and 26 064 three pound cans tomatoes at six for a dollar. Purchases limited to 20 pounds bacon and two cans corned beef each. six cans tomatoes per person.

Hart Asked to Curb Japanese Activities in State
