New York reports a high profile divorce centered on Elinor Jordan Shaw and Philip M. Shaw. The case involves Miss Madrienne La Barre the so called Butterfly Girl and alleged misconduct claims, lavish spending and alimony requests.
Two gunmen accosted G C Grandy at 10th Ave and Marion St, demanding his money and a gold watch. They stepped from a shadowed building, pushed revolvers to his face, and fled after stealing $21 and the watch.
The Western Osteopathic association holds a three day convention in Portland with delegates from most Western states. The event centers on bone manipulation techniques and related medical topics.

The House Ways and Means Committee, led by Rep Madden, votes to trim the current fiscal year’s projected $1.6 billion deficit to $3.5 billion in total outlay. The plan aims to curb expenses across the Shipping Board, Railroad Administration, Army and Navy, and other agencies, while reshaping taxes to produce over $3 billion in revenue.
Gasoline falls two cents a gallon amid an industry price cut. Union oil stock dips to 25 cents, with Shell and Standard matching the cut. California reports similar reductions. W. W. Whitney, former Seattle police officer, pleaded guilty to grand larceny in Judge Boyd J. Tallman’s court and received six months to 15 years in the penitentiary. He aided Clarence O’Keefe in stealing candy from Imperial Candy and selling it to small buyers. O’Keefe has also pleaded guilty but awaits sentence. Whitney’s possession of $56.80 worth of stolen candy helped establish guilt.
London report says the De Valera cabinet and Dail Eireann will accept Lloyd George peace proposals as a basis for discussion with only minor changes. It is expected the Dail will endorse, with next steps involving a meeting between De Valera and Ulster premier Craig.
Willard Black was arrested Tuesday night on a charge of manslaughter after the death on July 27 of A. T. St. Croix. The two men allegedly struck each other during a heated argument, St. Croix receiving a fatal blow. Black is held in the city jail.
Washington August 3. A broader probe of the internal revenue bureau including the prohibition unit will be undertaken within days. Commissioner Blair says charges of varying severity have been made about the conduct of its affairs.

In Des Moines Iowa on August 2 a federal order suspends streetcar service by midnight, sending 72 buses to cover 100000 daily rides. Jitneys face mass shutdown with 150 used by 65 permit holders and 20 day rehearing deadlines. residents fear property devaluation and longer commutes without timely municipal transport.
Captain Rupert Stuttard a 50 year old seaman disappeared after leaving Seattle for Vancouver to buy a sailboat. He withdrew the family's savings from the bank and a sailboat matching his description was later seen adrift near Point Wilson. Seattle police sought help from Canadian and local authorities to locate him.
Yakima reports Calvin M. Graves aged 77 is sued for divorce by his wife Ruth Law Graves just two weeks after their marriage, seeking formal dissolution of the union and settlement terms.
The Seattle Groceteria Co filed suit Wednesday against N. S. Bean and wife Ethel S. Bean for 1299.45 alleging funds were taken from the Kirkland branch Groceteria store for personal use while Bean managed that operation. Bean was employed by the company on July 27, 1921.
