Washington reports Britain fully rejects U S neutrality arguments in a series of notes. London asserts right to seize cargoes of suspected German origin and to block shipments from neutral ports. Commerce data claim a billion dollar U S foreign trade surplus supports Britain’s view. The Natchez note and other communications will be released Wednesday. The German reply regarding the Frye sinking also arrived.

Mrs Elizabeth Crashul an Austrian immigrant in Wilkeson has spent months searching for her two sons aged 6 and 12 who were removed by probation officers and placed with the Washington Children's Home. She traced them to Seattle but was not allowed to see them, later learning they were sent east. A habeas corpus hearing was set for Aug 11 as lawyer Thomas Byron MacMahon fights to have the boys returned. Ten percent wage increase noted at Bethlehem Steel works.
More than 4 000 delegates arrive for the Knights of Columbus convention in the city. The program begins Tuesday with a solemn pontifical mass at St James Cathedral led by Archbishop Bonzano, followed by a 11 a m session at the Knights of Columbus club house and welcome addresses from local and state officials. A public reception and formal ball cap the day at the Knights venue.
Berlin reports Germany has not decided to answer the latest American note on the Lusitania. A semi official statement says the government is awaiting the text of the forthcoming American note to England before replying.
Mrs. J. H. Davis of 155 Highland drive fired a pistol at a burglar who appeared at her door Sunday night at 10 o'clock. She screamed but missed, and the intruder fled.
One hundred fifty candidates were admitted to the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree in a solemn Monday ceremony at the K C clubhouse with Maurice D. Leehey of Seattle officiating after high mass at St James cathedral. The Arctic club banquet honoring the candidates was said to be a major planned event with Leehey as toastmaster and Bishop of Dea delivering the invocation. Speakers listed include Mayor Gill Thomas J. Gorman John M Gearin Edward K Brown and others from several states.
Admiral Caperton reports U S Marines confiscating guns and ammo in Port au Prince to prevent attacks on landing forces. Natives hide arms as the city is searched and night gatherings are banned. Wesleyan mission attacked. food scarce. French legation guarded. USS Connecticut with 800 marines to reinforce Caperton arriving Wednesday.
Police Chief Lang announced he would thoroughly investigate the charges of brutality leveled by The Star against Officers Phillips and Collins after the Thursday arrest of James Reynolds. He said the matter would receive full attention and that action would follow if the charges are proven.
Mayor Gill ordered the Old Workingmen's home near the city stockade closed. About 30 men reside there, ages up to 75. He proposes moving the elderly to the county farm while the younger residents seek work. The facility has served as temporary shelter for unemployed.
