In Carrollton Mississippi on August 2 1900 a mob of about 50 white citizens seized Betsie McCray her son Belfield and daughter Ida McCray from the jail bound them and hanged them to a tree after Ida McCray confessed knowledge of the Taliferro murder Gov A H Longino arrived by special train and urged lawful action as prominent locals urged restraint.
