Gold Shipment From Treadwell Mines Sets New Record
The Pacific Coast Steamship Cottage City arrived from Southeastern Alaska with a brick gold cargo valued at about 15 0260 dollars and sent to the Bank of California. It is the largest single shipment ever from Treadwell mines, roughly a month’s output. The voyage suffered an eight hour delay after a cylinder head failure near Wrangel Narrows, slowing speed and delaying the schedule. Captain Wallace kept the ship steady, repairs completed, and the Cottage City nears end of its run as the Valencia takes over temporarily. The steamer carried 71 passengers and a cargo of fresh fish.
