A deadly tornado or storm swept through Worth and nearby counties on April 29, destroying homes and farms. At least seven killed and twenty families displaced, with extensive property damage and impassable roads. Names of injured and dying were reported, including residents of Milan and nearby communities, amid widespread devastation and aid efforts.

Fred Conrad shot and killed Joe Block at the Alaska Shingle Company mill in Deming yesterday morning. Washington meanwhile seeks full details on arrests and convictions of Chicago crewmen from Commander Dayton.
In Tacoma on Pacific avenue M J Griffin a railroad worker was fatally struck in the chest by Mike Burke a railroad switchman after a brief conversation near a store. Burke struck Griffin once and fled leaving unclear details of later events.
Mike Burke a Northern Pacific switchman was arrested at Kalama on a charge of killing M. J. Griffin in Tacoma the previous night. Burke claims the death was unintentional and denies kicking Griffin, saying he struck Griffin on the neck with his flat and fled thinking he had only stunned him.
President Roosevelt named Lyman D. Andrewa as receiver and J. Henry Smith as registrar at Beattie. Miles Cannon was set as receiver at North Yakima with Alexander J. Cook as receiver at Vancouver. Fred W. Stocking will be Olympia registrar and Matthew B. Malloy registrar at Waterville, all on Senator Foster’s recommendation.

William Mc Kinley Osborne United States consul here died this morning after a long illness. He was a cousin of the late President McKinley. Osborne served as secretary of the Republican National Committee in 1896 and in 1897 was appointed consul general at London.
