In Wenatchee Washington on April 22 Rupert McClure age 11 improvised a firecracker like device by inserting gun powder into a baking powder can and driving a nail hole in the top. A lighted match dropped into the can caused an explosion injuring his eyes and face severely.

In Butte County Montana a ten year old boy Harry Merrick, grandson of rancher Henry Harrison, died instantly when a loaded shotgun hung on a granary wall discharged as he drove out chickens. The accident occurred at the Roup farm near Cheatnut Hill.
