In New Orleans April 20 Frankly Russell prize fighter Micheel Waleh were shot to death in an automobile in the downtown district. Police arrested Philip Gehlback and Arthur V. Mason on murder charges. Two women Ethel Reynolds and Juanita Stevens held as material witnesses. Officers said the shooting followed a feud between bootleggers and grafeters. Russell and Walsh were killed as they drove past a second car containing the four prisoners.
New York April 20 A 15 year old bank messenger Robert Byrnes confessed to police that he discarded $121,000 in securities from the Brooklyn bridge. He said a companion Walter Norris 18 declined to join the plan and later refused to help.
Albany Oregon April 20 The search for Frank Bowker who disappeared Sunday night and is believed murdered continued as Roswell Hecker awaits developments in Portland city jail. Nellie Lainhart the only material witness was released after two days confinement. she is alleged to be Hecker’s sweetheart.
Washington April 20 The naval appropriation bill approved by the House carries 251269000 dollars for an enlisted personnel of 86000 men. Senate action is expected as proponents seek a higher enlistment, while the bill totals about 18000000 dollars more than the House committee recommendation.
Treasury officials received a letter from Henry Ford’s secretary denying Ford authored the claim that he repaid $79,000,000 in war profits. The secretary said Ford did not see the statement until after its publication and bore no responsibility for it.

Washington April 2. Jaly of War Weeks today gave to the army to render aid in relief flood work on the lower Mississippi. In response to a telegram Gov McRae of Arkansas, Weeks directed Col Robert A Brown commander 7th corps area at Crook Neb to give all possible aid. Food clothing tents and supplies will be furnished if necessary and after floods subside army engineers will drain lands and repair levees damaged by high waters.
Murphysboro Illinois April 20 news reports thirty thousand acres of rich upland and row crop land were inundated when the levee on the Big Muddy river at Murphysboro broke today. Local authorities warned residents and farmers of ongoing flooding and possible further damage.
A young woman speeding through the city was pressed by a desk sergeant to reveal her age at the city jail. She refused, claiming she need not state it to register. The sergeant warned of strict handling of speeders as the exchange grew tense.
