A public safety committee vote to indefinitely postpone a chicken ordinance died 3 to 1 after a three hour debate led by Councilman Blaine. About 300 chicken raisers filled the council room as the contentious issue sparked heated discussion and widespread participation.
United Press reports from Halifax cite the Parisian noting no lifeboats or bodies seen near the Titanic wreck. Weather is frigid and exposure likely fatal for passengers clinging to wreckage before Carpathia aid. In Oregon, Chris Mundancey dies in hospital after losing both legs to a mill accident, joking with his fiancé.
In New York on April 17 hundreds of Titanic victims’ relatives denounced J. Bruce Ismay and the White Star Line for alleged secrecy and mismanagement. They criticized Ismay for leaving the ship with women and children and demanded news, while White Star offices offered only no news.

Anna Milbrath, the Oakland girl duped into a marriage with Sir Harry Westwood Cooper, an ex convict, has been located in Gary Indiana with her aunt. A telegram from her brother says she is safe and refuses to believe Cooper’s alias Dr Milton Abraham.
Tacoma voters chose open-town prosperity with clear results. Commissioner of Public Works Owen Woods was reelected, A. A. Mills became commissioner of public safety, and Nicholas Lawson was named commissioner of light and water.
