Cork lord mayor Donal d Calaghan says he will not depart the United States to comply with a government ruling. The American Association for the Recognition of the Irish Republic reports the lord mayor of Cork will speak in Chicago Monday night and then tour west of the Mississippi.
Washington April 14 The Harding administration planned the new United States Shipping Board lineup led by James A. Farrell as chairman with former Senator George Chamberlain of Oregon Colonel Charles R Forbes of Seattle and Alexander James Thompson of Mobile. Former Congressman Will E Humphrey of Seattle pursued a board seat in a vigorous but unsuccessful campaign. The Seattle Chamber of Commerce had urged his selection.
Thursday marked the first day of poll tax collection. About 100 persons paid five dollars each to County Treasurer Wm. A. Gaines in the forenoon, with 25 more sending their dues by mail.
Federal Judge Neterer heard testimony on the gold dust and ingots recovered from the Princess Sophia safe raised by diver Frank Walters. The sunken ship lay in Alaskan waters about 20 months ago. The court seeks to determine expenses charged against the safe contents as a decree is prepared.

Cole 37 salesman Lillian St. Clair 21 housewife and three others fled bail after an accident on the Spokane street bridge.
Gretchen Butler alias Bobby Butler accused of stealing a 150 dollar check from Dr G A Ghent and cashing it at Bon Marche. Prosecutor charged her with forgery in the first degree for indorsing Ruth Cohen on the back of the instrument.
Rep Frear of Wisconsin charged in a House speech that Jules Bache and Meyer Rothschild head a New York driven campaign by jewelers, candy makers, and druggists to form a slush fund and lobby in Washington to push a sales tax while easing taxes on big business. He introduced a resolution demanding an investigation into the alleged scheme.
Tacoma bakers cut retail prices to 13 cents for a pound and a half loaf and two loaves for 25 cents. The old price was 15 cents. Seattle prices remained at 15 cents with no immediate reductions expected.
In a sealed verdict Judge Cushman found Torakichi Saito and Mitsuyoushi Fujiwara guilty of conspiracy to smuggle seven Japanese into the United States aboard the Alabama Maru. They face up to two years in prison or a $10 000 fine with sentence set for Monday. Saito and Fujiwara were ship officers on the Alabama Maru and were convicted for concealing seven stowaways when the ship arrived in Seattle on December 20, 1920. Ya mane Yoshida T Yoshida and T Saki were acquitted.
BEAUMONT Tex April 14 Thirteen crew members of the ill fated Col Bowle were picked up eight miles off the port of Tampico in a radio message received by port authorities today.
A blaze at the Ambassador hotel in Santa Barbara caused wide alarm and forced many guests to flee. The origin of the fire remained unclear as wealthy visitors, many from the East, lost belongings while officials investigated. Guests identified include H. K. Kent and wife and S. E. Brown of Portland, Oregon.
Fire in downtown Johnstown Pennsylvania on April 1 threatened a block of buildings in the business district. All city and nearby boroughs sent companies to battle the flames. Two men were overcome by smoke as the blaze spread through the area.
Traffic division chief Lieut. C. G. said Eastlake avenue will be a speedway as jitney drivers race for time. A city drive began Thursday after complaints to Mayor Caldwell about speeding on Eastlake and Westlake avenues.
