In the summer of 1879 a Landon family travels from Wisconsin to Nebraska. Dan Landon grows from a quiet farm boy into a determined learner. He studies while plowing, debates in youth, and gains admission to the University of Nebraska College of Law, starting a path to becoming a lawyer.
Dan Landon candidate for mayor challenged the moneyed ring at two meetings in Woodland Park Methodist church and Green Lake Library. He promised to purge graft in the purchasing agents department. Other speakers included Walter F. Meier, H. S. Turner, Maj T. J. Cunningham, and candidates for council and school director.
Sir Ross Smith and Lieut Bennett died when the world flight trainer crashed at Brooklands during a test. Sir Keith Smith witnessed the wreck, and the machine plunged from 3000 feet after a perfect ascent. An eyewitness recounted the tragedy to United Press.

A Seattle bound Everett bus crashed while passing a slower vehicle on Bothell Way. Ten passengers rode the bus with at least one severely injured. Driver E J Schlotman reported the skid fearing casualties, but said no one was hurt. Junior Hurt, 3, from Arlington, suffered severe head injuries from flying glass but was not in danger. The child was expected to remain in bed a week.
Gen Semenoff famed Cossack commander who hunted through Siberia is hiding from a New York sheriff. His attorney says he will surrender before night but bondsmen planned surrender yesterday and the general vanished. Detectives and sheriffs search unsuccessfully for the Russian. A court order seeks to bring him in over a civil suit for 475000 filed by a New York firm.
SAN RAFAEL Cal April 13 The three convicts who escaped from San Quentin last week have eluded a posse believed to have surrounded them near Arbuckle yesterday according to advices to prison authorities at San Quentin today.
Pedro Reyes, a local merchant, is believed dying after a gun duel with a bandit who tried to rob his store. Both men fired repeatedly. Reyes said the robber was badly wounded and police pursue a suspect headed toward Oakland.
