The Meacham man’s murder trial unfolds with Deputy Hart challenging the defense to share testimony. Oscar Ay and others recount the shooting near Bourgette’s yard while witnesses place Campbell, the gun, and Bourgette at the scene. The defense argues Bourgette had a long history of trouble. Campbell allegedly bought the gun for self defense.

The case was continued to April 24 with additional costs possible if the senator remains absent. He is now in Canada. Jurors for the May term of the federal court were drawn Thursday. John Pardon, a Ballard merchant, died in Sedro-Woolley Wednesday night. Funeral at Bonney Watson parlors Friday at 1 30, remains shipped to Vashon at 3 Friday afternoon.
The morning steamer Nubia described a Russian fleet of at least 42 vessels in lat 8N long 109E moving north toward Saigon Hong Kong. Iphegenia wirelessed a similar sighting 140 miles south of Saigon. two Japanese ships were seen near Cape Rock Hongkong. Actions and locations remain unconfirmed by Tokyo authorities.
In Vienna on April 13 the civil court ruled that Rudolph Spreckels of San Francisco must pay the $2,000 charged by Dr. Edgar Gane for appendicitis treatment. Spreckels contested the bill as exorbitant, filing the test case as the defendant.
Portland report notes David E. Dugdale announced the selection of Andy Anderson to play second base for the Bellingham, Washington team this season.

In Auburn Cal a Moran Bros company official refused to admit union affiliated evangelist Charles Stelzle to speak at the yards. Dr Needham led the noonday meeting after Stelzle’s exclusion while the Chapman quartet and Powers supplied music. The incident follows Moran open shop policy after a previous shipyard strike.

Misa Maud Fowler, 17, a mail carrier between Jean and St Andrews, is critically wounded after Bertha Fowler stabbed her five times with an old case knife. The attack followed Bertha’s four mile journey to the Jean post office in a suspected jealousy dispute. the assailant was arrested.
The Seattle club bench show drew large crowds at Ger Mania Hall on Thursday. Judges pared the dogs by class with many winners listed including Irish Setter and English Setter varieties. Bracken O Lick and John Riplinger are among frequent winners. Seventy three dogs were judged by noon.
An unidentified man, well dressed, was found floating in the bay near Sixteen-mile Point of the Great Northern railroad early Thursday. A passing train conductor spotted the body and halted the train to recover it, later leaving the corpse in charge of a deputy coroner. Officials believe the death resulted from drowning while walking along the railroad track.

Portland April 13 It is announced that transcontinental roads have yielded to petition of the North Pacific Coast robbers association and that there will be a partial readjustment of rates from coast points to interior. A 100 mile Spokane rule remains and Portland Tacoma Seattle will gain parity with interior points. J C Stubbs traffic director Harriman lines helped push changes and left for Ohio. BE Beck and W B Bailey sought a superior court injunction Wednesday morning.
Residents seek $1,000 in damages before the city proceeds with regrading Woodlawn Avenue. The claim states the project will affect private property and payment is tied to the work.
A laborer was killed at a two story home on Thirteenth Avenue and East Cherry Street late Thursday. He fell from scaffolding and died instantly. The deceased’s name had not been learned at press time.
Barney Oldfield and A C Webb, noted racing drivers, will race in St Louis on April 14 or 21. Oldfield supervises roadwork in Cleveland for a Gordon Bennett race. Webb is regarded as the only man in America close to Oldfield’s class, promising strong public interest.
