An April 12 1910 letter to The Star denounces editorials defending large families on $2.50 a day. The writer calls responsible for eight children a “human brute,” argues future poverty and unrest, and urges denying rights to parents who cannot care for many children. Humanity.
Harry Grewe struck his sweetheart Edna Clemens over an alleged kiss with a police officer. Clemens testified to the court and denied caressing the officer. Judge Gordon imposed a $100 fine and 20 days jail for Grewe. Clemens was released as Patrolman Terry, who made the arrest, blushed.
Joseph Medill Patterson, millionaire socialist and author, is defendant in a $69,000 damage suit filed by Eugene Quirk. Quirk alleges Patterson's play The Fourth Estate plagiarized from Quirk and his wife’s book Drifting, stealing plot and characters. The suit asserts copyright infringement and theft of ideas.

A party of 10 from Fairbanks, led by Thomas Lloyd, completes an overland ascent of Mt McKinley. They reach the summit on December 3 and find no evidence that Dr. Frederick Cook reached it. Four climbers finish the ascent after routing steps through ice fields and place a monument on the peak.

A night confrontation on Seventh and Eighth avenues ends with the death of a black highwayman identified as Harry Van, after a gunfight with three officers. Asa Porter and Anna Miller were detained as accomplices. Looker, Christensen, and Donlan led the chase and returned fire until the bandit fell. Three bullets struck the suspect in his chest.
Clawle F. Weston, once street commissioner and councilman, was found dead in his office chair at Weston Brown barn shortly after noon yesterday. Seattle issued 65 building permits yesterday with a total valuation of 52600.

A United Wireless message from the wrecking steamer Santa Cruz reports the steamer Georgia ran aground a quarter mile from the Yucatan wreck at 6 a m. The rescue succeeded, passengers and cargo were transferred, and the vessel remains afloat though badly damaged needing pumps. The City of Seattle aided, transferring mail and passengers to Juneau. The Georgia, a coastwise vessel owned by G D Simmons of London, has a Vancouver agent.
Mrs. Catharine Farmer, once known as a feminine Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, identified by her Crystal City Missouri death by suicide with strychnine. The clownish beauty and railroad clerk's wife, her life spanned Crystal City and Denver stories. She died Friday and was buried in Edwardsville Illinois after a heart disease supposition.
Two hoboes found asleep on the rear observation car of a Northern Pacific passenger train near Olympia after being thrown off. The crew halted the train and the men stood by the tracks before continuing journey. A separate coal mine note reports 21 more bodies recovered from the St Paul mine disaster with $1400 found on one victim.
