United Press reports 46 miners trapped at the Pancoast mine in Throop Pennsylvania died of suffocation as fire and smoke filled lower levels. Rescue teams battled smoke, debris, and gases, rushing air and oxygen to reach the shaft, with pumps and a special train of rescuers en route.

Fowler Cardon says he and his wife and three children were pushed from a line waiting to see Roosevelt at the Washington hotel. He alleges lies of blows and choking by four officers, while Police Keefe disputes that Cardon was struck first. Cardon plans to file charges with Chief Rannick and has witness names.
Three San Francisco postal clerks were dismissed for refusing to sign a pledge not to join the proposed postoffice employees union. Rumors say more workers face threats of dismissal, after Division Superintendent Stephens warned they would lose their jobs if they joined unions.
Charles Sheldon, alleged embezzler of thousands in Montreal, began transit at noon today in Pittsburg under custody of officials as he heads for trial in Montreal.
In Fort Worth on April 7 Mrs. T W Brooks faced collapse after testifying she spent an hour daily for four years praying Mrs Mary Binford would reform before Brooks shot her in January. Both women were leaders in a local church group and Brooks accused Binford of alienating her husband.
In The Star chapter five, Marston Wells reports sixteen pennies found since Monday. Four more pennies are found near Fourth Ave and Union St at a drug store, tall office building entrance, cigar shop window ledge, and hat store sidewalk entrance. Twenty pennies recovered with four remaining to win prizes.
