Why is Tillman
Washington editor Gilson Gardner opines Tillman is honest and a fighter of graft. He notes Tillman’s rise from reform battles in South Carolina to the Senate, praising his blunt honesty, ruggedness, and direct speech. Gardner cites Tillman’s resistance to bribery, loyalty to the people, and admiration for strong opponents.
