The Seal Beach school auditorium hosts an American Legion Auxiliary essay contest awards program Friday night March 13 at 7 30. Six seventh and eighth graders compete for first second and third prizes with subjects on what it means to be American and how to be a better American. Ray Moffitt and Thelma Upham lead the event with guest speaker and prize announcements.

Police stop Bay Lane crime wave youths aged 8 to 15
Police arrested four boys aged 8 to 15 for breaking into five houses, ransacking them, stealing valuables and damaging property in the Bay Lane area. They were released to their parents for Juvenile Court hearing likely Friday. Police say the first attempts involved all four, with the last three houses entered by the older trio. Most stolen items, except for damage, have been returned.

Earl Whittington Heads Beach Coordinating Group
Captain Earl Whittington of Seal Beach lifeguards was elected president of the Public Beach Coordinating Committee at the Hermosa Beach March meeting.
