A four month old baby boy, Dana Dean Martin, died in a Sunset Beach house fire caused by a mysterious explosion. The infant slept in a crib as the blaze trapped him while his family was apart. Wen dell Martin, 20, was unable to reach the child. The mother collapsed upon hearing the tragedy. neighbors and firefighters responded after a kitchen window observation sparked the alarm.
A benefit baked goods sale is set for June 17 and 18 to raise funds for Eleanor Lane Owens's medical expenses. Eleanor formerly worked at Gilbert's Fountainette on Main Street and is ill. Seal Beach organizations unite. Mrs. James O'Toole chairs.
The Long Beach Doll Club hosted a city auditorium exhibition with over 200 adult attendees. Highlights included George and Martha Washington dolls crafted by Humpty Dumpty Doll Hospital owner Mrs. William Smith and designer Mrs. Marie Matheson, created in 1776 fashion and destined for a London toy museum via Mrs. Sonny Hemmi. Proceeds from the dink table benefited children while collectors traded dolls at sales tables run by Edna Cheshire and Ivyl Rowland.
The City Council will borrow a Ridings Cadillac for a July Fourth parade float, while approving a two hour Sunday parking extension with a grace period. The Hellmans may sell land for Fifth Street extension at 3500 an acre, and Monterey Oil installs four 1500 barrel tanks as pipelines trench work nears completion.
Fire destroyed the Martin family home in Sunset Beach leaving two girls aged three and ten and two boys aged eight and twelve with only the clothes they wore. They need clothing, furniture, and household items and donations may be sent to Associated Service Station at Broadway and Coast Highway Sunset Beach. George Bryson runs the station and can be reached at 90-9129 or 34-5888.
According to a telegram from Congressman James B. Utt the Post Office Department approved a ten year lease renewal for the Seal Beach post office property owned by L G Duff. They will remodel and enlarge the building to 3500 square feet.
Edwin Doolittle commander of the Seal Beach American Legion Post No 300 presented the city with two new flag staffs at Tuesday evening’s council meeting.
Community event in Seal Beach features two showings of a baseball movie in the Council Chambers. First at 6 p.m. and second at 6 45 p.m. to accommodate attendees. Merchants and citizens support ticket sales and donations for the Sea Beach Baseball League.
