Filing season for the coming city election starts April 14 with no papers filed for the three council seats as of February 13. Of the incumbents Fred P. Miller Eddie Kupferle and Dr Ernest F Green, only Green has announced intent to run again pending health permits. Filing continues until March 14 and voters may register by March 5 if address changes or age 21.

Seal Beach officials led by Mayor Elmer J. Hughes secured an unconditional 25000 grant from the California State Beach and Park Commission to develop Seal Beach bay and peninsula protections. An extra 5000 was added to a prior 20000 without deed requirements, with more funds likely after hearings in Sacramento.

March 5 1942 is the last day to register for the General Municipal Election to be held April 14 1942 in Seal Beach. City Clerk will be at City Hall daily from 8 am to noon and 1 pm to 5 pm except Saturday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 for those who wish to register.

Defense Housing Construction Picketed Here

24 homes for defense workers near Orange County are under construction despite a 26 man A F L picket line. The Building and Construction Trades Council of Orange County ordered the line after real estate operator Philip Norton refused to hire only union workers for the job. Norton says none of the pickets has worked on the site and defends continued construction as urgently needed for defense workers. The federal priority order mandates the homes for workers in a designated defense area.

Puritan Cleaners Set to Reopen After Carrolls Return

Puritan Cleaners will open Monday February 23 with Mr and Mrs Edward Carroll back on the job. The shop had been closed for about a month while Carroll underwent a serious operation and recovered in Laguna Beach under the care of his brother Dr Vincent Carroll.

Residents of Seal Beach are urged to register Friday and Saturday February 20 and 21 at city hall council chamber to aid a county defense census led by Orange County Defense Council staff. Officials note population estimates range from 1553 (1940 census) to about 2500 today, impacting gas mask distribution.
