Toni Singleton hosted a Christmas party for fourteen service members at Toni's Cafe. Regular customers from two units attended a formal dinner, a beautifully decorated tree, and gifts placed beneath it. Attendees expressed appreciation for the festive event and dinner.

Local School Adds Three New Teachers This Week

Seal Beach Elementary welcomes three new staff members including Miss Joyce Wilson who will lead a combined third and fourth grade class and Miss Pougher who will teach art after completing studies at Kansas State and Minnesota. Mrs Harold Essert is appointed to teach a combined fifth and sixth grade class and is a familiar Seal Beach figure.

Dow Chemical Men Complete Fire Protection Course

More than 30 Dow Chemical Company employees in Seal Beach completed a nine hour fire protection course under the state fire marshal office and Ninth Service Command. Frank Lusk and Deputy Fire Marshal C C Johnson supervised the training which included practical fire startups and extinguishment under various conditions. The program aimed to teach use of available equipment during a fire until additional apparatus arrives, with three films shown on fire department action and military guidance on incendiary bomb responses. Seal Beach Fire Chief Sperry Knighton supported the event with local apparatus on hand.

Chairman Thanks Blood Donors At Red Cross Branch

Rationing Board Opens New Year's Day Duty

Seal Beach O P A staff will work regular hours on New Year’s Day to assist citizens. A Christmas box program for Coast Guard and Navy units in Seal Beach and Sunset Beach distributed via 39 boxes. Donations totaled 89.88 dollars with all funds matching expenses. The drive was organized by the Red Cross and local clubs with gifts and food items prepared by volunteers.

George Wheat Elected President of Huntington Beach Chamber

George Wheat, south coast manager for Southern California Edison, was elected president of the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce Monday evening. He succeeds Dr. Ralph Hawes who retired after being named to the City Council last spring. also chosen were Arthur Wison first vice president R L Bob Jackson second vice president and Otto Culbertson treasurer William Gallienne secretary manager for the ninth time.
