City assessors instructed on new assessm ent method for 1807
Twenty one assistant assessors were convened in the select council chamber last night and instructed on the new methods ordered by the board of revision and appeals. The plan departs from prior practice by valuing land and improvements at one third of actual value, using building permits for new structures, and omitting prior assessment books. The board will supervise citywide values with personal attention to specific wards, while clerical tasks like enumerating horses and dogs fall to the assessor’s staff. Assessing will start next week and finish before January 1, 1807.
