Rohrer Colliery Describes Decline of Mine Hill Site
In the southern anthracite coal basin the Rohrersville colliery at Mine Hill opened about fifty years ago. The mine, started by William and James B. Rohrer and later run by Joseph F. Taylor and Wells & Detweller, changed hands to a Heston company before 1861 when it was abandoned. The 360 foot slope filled with water, the breaker was dismantled, and the site faded as the village near the mine was deserted.
