In Harrsburg Pa on Sept 1 the Democratic State committee established headquarters in the Mechanics Bank building. Chairman Garman named T. K. Vandyke of Harrisburg resident secretary. Professor Suber of Reading oversees the literary bureau. Helpers include James Boweney Hazleton William Van Horn Wilkes-Barre and James Headian Wilkes-Barre.
New York report notes arrivals from Amsterdam Boulogne and Paris and from Southampton. It records ships arriving outbound and arriving at various ports including Mississippi Lon don and Brow Head sighting Etruria en route from New York to Queenstown and Liverpool.
A Purrow saloon in Logansport Indiana was blown up with dynamite at midnight in a temperance war action. The blast shook the area for miles. The owner Barraira declares he will rebuild and remain.
Washington Sept. 11. The commissioner of patents reversed the examiners in chief and awarded priority of invention to Scudder in the dine casting machine case against Ottmar Meri anthaler. Scudder conceived the invention as early as May 1890 and, with due diligence, built the second machine by October 1892. The controverted patent covers a minor portion of the type setting machine and has no immediate practical effect until after the Mer genthauer basic patent expires.
Washington reports receivers of several failed New Orleans banks took possession of vault contents. Boxes with depositor papers to be returned to owners not in debt, others kept for settlement. Treasury sent 1.25 million dollars to New Orleans sub treasury for sugar bounty claims. Eckels plans to go to Ottawa to escort his wife and children back to Washington.
An unknown assailant threw a dynamite bomb at contractor L. Waller’s home in Bloomsburg just before dawn. The blast wrecked the residence including the porch and windows, causing widespread excitement. the bomber escaped.

The Benevolent Protective Order of Elks holds its annual session in St Louis with leaders M. D. Detweiler Harrisburg Pa grand ruler and A Reynolds Michigan grand secretary among attendees. Trustees include Jerome B. Fisher Jamestown NY George P. Crock Omaha Neb and N A Craycroft Dallas Tex. A home for the ill discussion arose though no action taken. Next convention set for Minneapolis on July 7 1877.
Harrisburg on September 1 reports Frank E. Hollar, Republican candidate for congress in the Nineteenth district, had his nomination certificate filed at the state department. The York conference bolters, backing Colonel Stable, saw their nomination refused and the issue heads to court.
Wilkes Barre reports John W. Jones, 48, a bookkeeper at Hutchins Terra Cotta works in Wyoming, shot himself in the abdomen and is expected to die tonight. He is married with five children. the motive remains unknown.
In New York on September 1 the sheriff seized the business of Leroy W. Fairchild & Co, gold pen manufacturers, on executions for 12.0 dollars for creditor W. H. Moore. Liabilities and assets were reported near 0.0, with assets about the same.
In the middle states today fair to partly cloudy and sultry with near stationary temperatures. Winds shift southwest to northwest and local rains this afternoon or tonight. Sunday expects partly cloudy cooler weather with fresh northwesterly to northerly winds and local rain followed by clearing.
