Industrial output dips amid record low iron prices in 1893
The American Iron and Steel Association reports 1893 saw the lowest iron and steel prices in history despite rising production. US ore output fell to 11.69 million gross tons, with Lake Superior shipments at 6.00 million tons and imports near 520,000 gross tons. Coal output rose to 162.8 million gross tons while coke and pig iron declined. Pennsylvania and Ohio plants show revival and expansion as mining and processing facilities restart and plan new expansions.
