Lancaster Pa Sept 4 Francis Melakey 50 a Kiswell Hill farmer shot and killed Winall while intoxicated in a Monday spree then killed himself. He was found with a revolver by the side of his head in a pool of blood, a drastic act after a period of heavy drinking and despair.
At Saratoga the Republican convention opened with Lt Gov Woodruff named temporary chairman. Nevada Stranahan designated permanent chair. platform lauded McKinley era prosperity, attacked Democrats, backed Roosevelt and re election, with strong emphasis on Philippines policy and civil rights concerns. The session adjourned to 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Harrisburg September 4 an inquest into the death of Francia Frohm known as Shorty Jones found he was shot by a constable posse while fleeing arrest for crimes. Frohm’s burial took place in the Potter’s Field at the almshouse and his brother and sister attended. Authorities continue to pursue gang members including Whitey Streusser as investigators search for other Frohm gang leaders.
New York Sept 4 The American Sugar Refining Company will declare a dividend for the quarter of 1 percent on common stock and a regular quarterly dividend of 1 percent on the preferred section. The increase marks a rise in the last quarterly payout on the quintain stock.
White River division results show governor votes with Stickney, Republican, leading at 41.54 percent and Senter, Democrat, at 50.4 percent across about 26 towns and cities. Other candidates and totals are listed for the statewide race.
