United Mine Workers President John Mitchell announces a near victory and calls for resuming work on Monday October 29 after wage gains of about ten percent are granted by most companies. The message urges orderly grievance submission and semi monthly pay under Pennsylvania law. Strike terms vary by district, with some firms maintaining the sliding scale until April 1901.
Associated Press bulletin from Wilkes-Barre reports the end of the miners strike with crowds cheering. Businessmen welcome the resolution though wages will be delayed until mid November, with an anticipated 10 percent raise when work resumes. Susquehanna Goal and some operators have yet to post notices.

In Brooklyn this afternoon William Waser aged 44 and his child Joby Lila four were killed when a ladder they were painting a house on toppled. Authorities investigated the accident as a private fatal fall.
