Scranton Streets Face Budgeted Strain and Local Critique
Street Commissioner Dunning receives anonymous criticism amid praise from a leading local business figure for his efforts to clean streets. Scranton's 14 mile district is served by twelve men, far below Buffalo's four and a half men per mile. The piece notes inadequate funding and outdated methods, contrasting past small gangs with current slow coverage. An anecdote recalls a minor court visit by a Bloomsburg native, and a city boy warns a girl with a cobble on Jefferson avenue, while a Munsey's portrait tribute to William Connell and a note on Carolyne V. Dorsey appear.
