Confession Read In Evidence In Shew Murder Trial

In Montrose on Thanksgiving Day the confession of Cornelius Wells Shew was admitted as evidence after defense objections. Deputy Fitch Leonard testified to the confession to Selden Munger, with Munger reading and Shew signing in court. The written confession details the Susquehanna County crime, the Pepper place, the pepper barn, and the arrest route to Sayre, with Shew admitting involvement and noting inducements alleged by District Attorney Ainey. The Commonwealth rested its case and the defense began its rebuttal with Shew testifying to his version of events and claims of inducement. The judge adjourned until the next morning after counsel conferred.
