At the New York meeting of Jewish women on November 18 the motto Faith and Humanity was adopted for badges and the organization renamed the Council of Jewish Women. The constitution was amended to drop national and allow two vice presidents plus a state and foreign-country representation. Dr Morais urged study of the Bible and rejection of higher criticism. Officers are to be elected tomorrow amid a likely close contest, with New York seeking representation on national posts. The gathering included sessions at Temple Bethel with papers on Jewish study, opportunities, and mission schools.
Richard Redmond, known for prior court appearances on petty thefts, pleaded guilty to chicken stealing and attempting to kill an officer. Judge Brubaker sentenced him to six and a half years at the Eastern penitentiary.

The Norwegian Plow company with capital of 116000 was assigned on November 18 in Dubuque Indiana. Slow collections threaten the ability to pay debts totaling about 140000, with assets to cover some obligations.
John Wanamaker said he is not unemployed and would consider a U S Senate seat if Pennsylvania voters desire it. He stressed he is a merchant not a politician and would not force public office. He cited experience in business for insight on tariff and currency questions and said Senator Quay’s involvement should be asked to him.

Cases continued or under advisement include Nicholas Walther of Philadelphia for aggravated assault and battery, Frank Maer of Westmoreland for arson, Frank Martin Thompson of Philadelphia for robbery, Lucy K B Fitesimmons of Allegheny for murder.
Denver November 18 The Illinois Steel Works ordered 30000 tons of manganese to be sourced from Leadville Colorado. The deal follows President Gage’s Colorado visit and tests showing Joohn material surpasses foreign manganese. Value ranges from 2460000 to 4000000 dollars, impacting ship ballast for US shipping.
