Fire destroys tenement in Italian settlement on Belmont Street
A fierce blaze yesterday afternoon destroyed a tenement owned by Frank Wells in Carbondale's Italian settlement on Felmont Street below Clark. Insurance on the house valued at 800 dollars left tenants Mia Houston and Joe Younulli homeless with no belongings saved. Firefighters faced low water pressure and smoke as they battled the fire, which left the structure a total loss and nearby dwellings at risk.
