Washington May 18 The house committee on Invalid pensions reviewed a bill granting fifty dollars a month to Francis F Hoover vetoed by the president and recommended reporting it back with a veto override. Testimony since the veto suggests Hoover's disability stems from army service and supports a seventy two dollar monthly pension. The log camp of Kulp Thomas and Co whose rail car is burned and their locomotive and upper camp left in the heart of the fire with no means of communication with the outside world. Bears for the safety of the limbermen are entertained.
Lieutenant Chauncey F. Black announces he will not accept the presidency of the Democratic Society of Pennsylvania, formed by a league of clubs from across the state, in Philadelphia on May 18.
Wilkes Barre Pa May 18 The electric light plant at White Haven was destroyed in an afternoon blaze. Officials say the loss is heavy with most equipment ruined and power cut to surrounding areas. Firefighters fought the flames for hours before main structure collapsed. No injuries reported.
In Moscow on May 18 the emperor and empress arrived from St. Petersburg amid great crowds. The royal party traveled in a luxuriously fitted special train drawn by two American built locomotives, with seven cars including dining and sleeping compartments.

The Yates coal chutes one mile south of Charlotte Village collapsed this morning as 30 loaded cars on the trestle were released. Ten cars plunged into the river, others piled below. no injuries among about 105 workers. Loss estimated at 218,000 for chutes used to dump coal bound for Canada.
