Fire destroys house on Eynon Street harming adjoining properties
A large frame house on Eynon Street occupied by the Phillips and Jones families was gutted by a Saturday night fire caused by a overturned lamp. A dog in the home is blamed for tipping the lamp and perishing in the blaze. Damages to nearby Hadley and Morgan properties run about 500, while Phillips and Jones expect losses around 4500, partly insured. Fire brigades from Columbia, Franklin, Eagles, Hooks and Centurys fought the blaze amid limited water pressure. The dwelling, built long ago by the late Jeremiah Hawker, was a spacious old structure.
