First Concert a Major Artistic Success in Scranton
The Fanny Mendelssohn society presented its first public concert in the Frothingham last night featuring Mile. Alice Verlet and Miss Maud Morgan. A large, cultured audience praised the refined singing and playing, with strong performances from Verlet in both Helmund’s The Kiss and Le Filles de Cadiz, Morgan’s Autumn from The Beasons, and a finale of Parker’s The Fisher. Conducted by J Alfred Dennington, the program displayed grace, technical finesse, and expressive depth, underscored by Miss Charlotte Diackman’s accompaniment. The society, organized last September to pursue Art for Art’s Sake, is led by Pennington with officers and an executive committee of prominent local musicians.
