In Cincinnati on March 13, workmen boring for water in the boiler room of Chemnstrom Bros. distillery at 27 29 Parsons street struck natural gas at 200 feet. Gas filled the room and ignited from a furnace causing an explosion that wrecked the building. Several men were seriously burned including Erastus Weaver James Carl Kelfer Fred Wallenhorat and T Welsking. Frank Vetager.

The exact US route remains undecided though a US only option is favored by Birkinbine for wartime security. Possible paths include Lake Erie to Ontario then Champlain and Hudson or a mixed Canada US route. The plan envisions a twenty foot depth and two hundred foot width.
