Usury Case Dismissed Against Carbondale Bank

Alderman Wright ruled there was no cause for action in the usury case brought by D W Williams against the Miners and Mechanics Bank of Carbondale. The defense argued the 1899 act covered Philadelphia institutions only and the note was discounted within lawful limits. Costs were placed on the plaintiff after hours of argument. Charles Avery testified the bank discounts no note under 50 rents and Williams agreed to their terms.
