Governor Hastings signed the death warrant of Joseph Boschino of Scranton, to be hanged August 6 after the supreme court declined to intervene. Respite granted for Frank Morris of Uniontown and Frank Windish of Wilkes-Barre until September 1. Morris and Windish were slated for June 28 and July 1 executions, respectively. Robert Moseby of Washington County had his sentence commuted to life imprisonment.

A fire gutted the American Horse Exchange building on Broadway between Fiftieth and Fifty-first streets. More than 115 horses perished, including the celebrated Alfred G with a 2:19 record valued at $2,500. Building damage estimated at $200,000 and losses from $25,000 to $100,000.
Walter Hesterkamp aged 10 died on a train near Pittsburgh while being taken from his home to Washington D C to be treated for hydrophobia. He suffered convulsions and intense distress during the journey.
