June 2 Washington reports the minority authors Lewis Ohio and Hay Virginia release a critique of the Coeur d’Alene investigation. They claim no riot occurred in Shoshone County Idaho after April 2 1890 and U S troops restored quiet while state authorities arrested suspects. They cite abuses by General Merriam and prison hardship for innocent men in the Wardner bull pen.
In St Augustine Texas on June 4 a court house gun battle left Felix Roberts Sid Roberts and Sheriff Noel Roberts dead. The feud's violence escalated after prior killings including Sheriff George Wall and Eugene Wall. Troops may be needed as factions gather and telegrams request militia.

After five days of quarantine at Angel Island General Otis arrived from Manila aboard the Meade. Vaccination was required for Otis and all aboard due to smallpox on the transport. He traveled by special steamer from Angel Island to the Occidental hotel and then proceeded to Washington that night to report to the president.
