A July 7 despatch from Shanghai cites Sir Claude MacDonald's letter dated July 6 outlining the Pekin siege. Foreigners report no Imperial aid, three legations still standing, limited supplies, and possible relief by force approaching from the eastern gate or river. Casualties total 40 killed and 60 wounded.
Shanghai correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says reliable information reached today assures that all ministers except Baron Von Whetteler are alive. Some European survivors are leaving Pekin as the situation develops.
The Lokal Angzeiger reports the German emperor addressing Bremerhaven troops before their voyage to China. He orders no prisoners and urges ruthless action to avenge an ambassadorial outrage and secure German domination for a millennium.
A Shanghai cable alerts Toronto that all missionaries were killed at Pao Ting Fu. Mr and Mrs Hag nail and their three children are presumed dead. The China Inland Mission and two Protestant boards had workers at Pao Ting in Chi Li province, near Pekin and Tien Tsin.

Minneapolis writer reports Consul General Goodnow says conditions worsen as 2000 to 3000 Chinese leave daily with unclear purpose. Europeans form a native-excluding volunteer corps. 8 Kh policemen join. Goodnow will stay at his post while planning no return trip.
Bethlehem reports the Imperial Russian navy placed a contract with Ethliehem Steel for armor plate. The order, for 2000 tons of Krupp-made armor, will be delivered in fifteen months for three new ships Alexander III Orbino and Orel. This price exceeds Bethlehem armor offers to the U.S. government.
A Daily Express report says a large section of Boxers revolted against Prince Tuan outside Pekin. Prince Tuan led his followers in a multi hour battle. Two generals deserted him and the prince was defeated and killed in the clash.
Altoona reports John H Bell coal operator dies at Belbetwined aged 171 a Civil War veteran. Easton notes John C Wagner real estate owner dies at home aged about 70. Washington DC reports James Hellprin a Washington visitor who donated spectacles to Andrew Jackson dies at the Bethlehem Springs hotel. Burial at Bedford cemetery follows.
General orders from Harrisburg announce Major General Charles Miller fills staff posts including lieutenant colonels for adjutant general Inspector and subsistence surgeon and other key roles. Several officers from Philadelphia Pittsburg Harrisburg and other towns are reassigned or appointed to complete the General’s staff.
The Liberal rebellion in Colon ends after more than 600 lives sacrificed and hundreds wounded. Dr Mendoza and General Alhan arranged a cessation of hostilities with Liberals surrendering arms and receiving guaranteed political rights. Foreigners who backed rebels to be banished within a week. Herrera and Paras have left Panama. Burial work continues. Panama plunged into mourning.
