Squeeze in multiple mines traps hundreds of tons of coal
A cave in and settling in the Central, Oxford and Hampton mines near Luzerne Street affect about twenty acres. Fourteen Central mine mules were moved via the Washburn shaft while three chambers in the Hampton vein suffer pressure. Pumps control flooding in the Central vein as workers fear further damage. Oxford mine stabilizes and plans to resume work. Assistant superintendent Davies disputes prior claims, saying the new squeeze is unrelated to the six month old event and that mines may reopen soon.
