Cuyahoga county veterans and sailors union marched to Major McKinley’s Canton home to honor him and hear speeches. Speakers included Hugh Berkley W T Clark and C C Deoste as McKinley praised union soldiers and urged unity to defend national honor and restore prosperity.
In Cleveland on July 16 the RNC executive committee met with Chairman Padcock and Thomas H. McKee. They planned consolidating the literary and printing bureaus with P. S. Heath as chief, to operate from Chicago. A 15-member advisory committee is being formed with listed figures including Senator Proctor, Cornelius Bliss, General Alger, and HM. Clay Evans. A hundreds-strong sailors and soldiers group left Cleveland to visit Major McKinley in Canton.
Republican national executive committee members Mevssis J H Manley N P Scott Powell Clayton Cyrus Land D Dawes and General Osbourne met Major McKinley in Canton Ohio to discuss the Cleveland executive session plank. Hanna absent due to brother-in-law’s death. Campaign headquarters will see frequent visits by Hobart Mantey and Quay with Hayle Leland and Clayton active in Chicago. A lively speaking campaign is planned with no formal opening date yet set.
Camp Gib on near Londtown Pennsylvania opens with Major General Snowden in charge. The camp stretches along the Juniata river, attracting hundreds of spectators to view the rival city across the water. The division comprises about two to three miles of tents totaling 4407 including 146 hospital tents 284 wall tents 130 conical tents and 82 stable tents.
Masilion Ohio July 16 The Buffalo Bill band wagon struck the over head Fort Wayne bridge at Erie Street scraping all aboard in front of thousands. Driver many hurt and several passengers crushed or injured including Lavero Domenica fatally and others with broken bones and crushed chests.
Auditor General Amos H. Mylin received Senator Quay's formal resignation as state chairman. Quay's letter states his resignation from the Republican state committee. Mylin will select Quay's successor with the two statewide candidates for congressmen at large.
Nearly one hundred members of the Massachusetts Reform Club met at the Parker House to discuss the political crisis. Colonel F Haskell led the remarks urging support for the gold standard and opposition to silver, while condemning rampant protectionism and populist demagoguery. A unanimous resolution supported Grover Cleveland's financial policy and urged independent voters to back pro gold standard candidates. Appropriate resolutions honored ex-Governor Russell.
George Windish, the Pittston wife murderer, grows weaker in the county jail. He has been moved to the prison hospital, refuses nourishment, and is expected to die before his scheduled September 1 execution. He says he is heartbroken.
The court found Mr House guilty of aiding and abetting the embezzlement of city funds. Ex City Attorney Moreland evaded trial by pleading guilty to the same charge when the case was called last Monday.
Workers at Lehigh Valley Coal Company tolleries in Shenandoah Pennsylvania were ordered to resume full time work starting Monday morning. The plant employs hundreds of men and boys across the region and the Philadelphia and Reading company is expected to make a similar announcement this week.
Violence flared as three more companies of troops were dispatched to Brown Hoisting works in Cleveland after a planned mob blocked exits and attacked officers. Sixty three workers were moved in wagons, bayonets pricked about forty strikers, and the state arbitration board began hearings today.
A ferry boat carrying 40 to 50 ore handlers capsized on the old river channel in Cleveland at 8 PM. Seven bodies recovered by 10 PM as panic aboard prompted a rush to the gunwale, tipping the craft. The vessel, almost fully loaded, sank with most men plunged into the river.
Frederick Streckel a prominent McKeesport businessman and German resident was found dead in his room with a bullet wound and a revolver by his side. The death is attributed to a slander suit by J. K. Selly, a dog goods merchant, who claimed Streckel harmed his credit. the case remains in court.
Jose Demore arrived from New York City to Montrose and caused the arrest of his wife Rose Remando and Antonio Mariofellschezze on charges of Violation of the marriage contract. Mrs Demare preferred Feliz choszo to her husband and urged return to New York to search for their four children. Both await grand jury action.

Jefferson City July 14 Bryan arrives from St Louis as Bland, in a linen duster, greets him warmly. Bland praises free silver and predicts Missouri backing. Bryan credits Bland and Stone, lauds Silver Mayor, and urges unity for silver on gold parity.
A telegram from W C Whitney sent to United Press rejects any endorsement of the Chicago ticket and states no circumstances would lead him to vote for it. In Indiana, Democrats meeting at North Vernon nominate Hon. William Holman as their congress candidate despite no opposition to the Chicago platform.
Pittsburgh, July 16. The jury in the case of William H. House, former assistant city attorney, this afternoon rendered a verdict of guilty. The trial centered on alleged misconduct during his tenure.
