State Fish Commission Faces Two Year Shutdown Over Funding
The legislature failed to provide $40 000 to cover expenses for the next two years. Erie and Allentown hatcheries hold 60 000 breeding fish valued over $10 000 and must be released if funds are not found. The commission is $1 000 in debt and key bills may fall without adequate appropriation. A plan to raise funds via fish protection groups or other sources is under consideration, with a meeting among the treasurer auditor general and commissioners planned to explore options.
