Congressman and Mrs. Connell celebrate fifty years of marriage in Scranton with widespread congratulations from friends and community members. The couple’s life together is praised for generosity, perseverance, and shared devotion, recalling their early beginnings and lasting influence.
The golden wedding anniversary of Congressman and Mrs William Connell drew a throng of about a thousand guests at their private Scranton home. Vehicles filled the avenue from 6 to 10 pm as relatives, friends, and dignitaries toured the rooms, viewed presents, and enjoyed a lavish luncheon by Purssell of New York. The couple and their family greeted guests amid music by Bauer’s string ensemble, with refreshments served in a temporary dining area due to the crowd. Both Mr and Mrs Connell expressed delight at the celebration, the most vivacious they have hosted.
An ornate reception at the Connell home on Chiy avenue and Vine street featured lavish yellow and green decorations, including roses orchids and ferns. Guests spoke of the beauty as Mrs. Muir of Marvin & Muir designed the setting while Dr. Giffin led a renewal of vows for William and Annie Connell who celebrated fifty years of marriage with family and friends.
