Township May Be Maritaled?
P J Quinn and Frank Toole Lackawanna township supervisors filed an answer via M J Donahoe in the Economy Furniture suit. They claim no funds in hand to pay the bill and that the treasurer, not they, should be pursued. They say the treasurer has no funds. A court-appointed commissioner may be named to oversee township debts and order a special tax levy to meet obligations. About 40000 township orders remain afloat at six percent, trading around sixty cents on the dollar as they may be negotiated at par by court order. The commissioner’s forthcoming report is expected to offer further reading.
