Coal Shortage Hurts Cities With Soaring Prices
Across New York Philadelphia and Baltimore prices vary for soft coal and anthracite with retail rates from 7 to 12 dollars and 50 cents, speculative coal at 9 to 10 dollars, and freight issues delaying shipments. Poor arrivals and frozen cargoes at New York harbor slow unloading while high barge rates and scarce berths worsen distribution and raise distress.
