The Lackawanna Railroad carpenter shop at Kingsland New Jersey was totally destroyed by fire at 3 80 o clock yesterday morning causing heavy loss to the company. The origin of the fire is unknown and only lumber was saved while all machinery within the building was destroyed.
Officials in this city are unaware of the shop’s logo value and insurance coverage. The recently upgraded facility adds to the severity of the loss as new machinery was installed before the incident.
The Lackawanna Railway announces a company wide holiday with no mine or local freight operations. Through freights reduced and only essential work at the car and machine shops will occur. Sunday schedule followed for New York suburban trains with extra service for theatregoers from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
